The National & Local Joint Engineering Research Center of Transportation and Civil Engineering Materials was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission and founded in the year of 2011. The Engineering Research Center focuses on the development and application of high-performance road construction materials, low-carbon and environment-friendly pavement materials, mountain road structure and special paving, mountain road safety and disaster prevention and mitigation, etc.

The Engineering Research Center has more than 60 fixed R&D personnel, including 24 national, provincial and ministerial talents, and 3 provincial and ministerial innovation research teams (groups). The R&D site covers an area of 10,000 m2, with more than 200 instrument and equipments, which is worth over 50 million yuan. More than 10 advanced experimental equipments, such as ALT-F600 full-environment pavement accelerated loading test system and pavement friction performance tester, have been developed by the center.
